Too young for Perimenopause?
The answer is probably NO!
As mentioned in my previous reel, there is no reliable test for perimenopause. Tests like FSH, AMH and Antral follicle count (AFC) are great for testing ovarian reserve in women who are trying to conceive but currently perimenopause is a diagnosis of exclusion - which means other common conditions need to be excluded to arrive at its diagnosis.
Besides, here is some plain simple math -
The average age of menopause globally is 51 - 52 years.
This average is 46 in Indian women.
5% of women experience early menopause which is between 40 to 45
1% of women experience premature menopause - ie menopause before the age of 40 years.
Symptoms of perimenopause can start anywhere between 2 to 10 years before menopause.
Basically, this means that perimenopause symptoms can start at 40 for some women and even 35 for some. Unfortunately, perimenopause is mainly a diagnosis of exclusion currently
Trust what you are feeling - it is 100% REAL and you are NOT alone in this. The best thing to do would be to educate yourself about the menopausal transition and prepare for it rather than looking for validation but also to look for a healthcare provider who can support you through this journey.
